The Illinois Attorney General’s office has launched an effort to fight child pornography in the state. Authorities say that while technology has made it easier to access and spread child pornography, it has also aided in investigations in to the sex crime.
Attorney General Lisa Madigan is scheduled to meet with several Internet companies to persuade them to implement a program called PhotoDNA. PhotoDNA was created in 2009 and donated to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The technology is able to track child pornography files being shared on the Internet.
Officials report that only 50 cases of online child pornography were prosecuted in 1995. Currently, around 2,500 cases of child pornography are prosecuted a year.
