In the aftermath of campus shootings at Virginia Tech in 2007 and Northern Illinois in 2008, colleges in Illinois and Michigan are retooling their safety procedures to improve the university’s response to crime.
In Michigan, public universities are installing high-resolution surveillance cameras, while colleges in Illinois are implementing measures that facilitate communication between students and campus security officials.
