Last month, a 20-year old Mahomet man was charged with aggravated battery in the attack of a University of Illinois student.
Witnesses to the attack told police that the student’s head was beat into concrete pavement on the University of Illinois campus. The victim was treated and released from Carle Foundation Hospital.
Police reports indicate that witnesses saw the 19-year old victim running from the 20-year old suspect on South Oak Street. The suspect then bashed the victim’s head into the ground. The suspect was seen fleeing the crime west towards Neil Street.
The suspect was found shortly after the attack and witnesses identified him as the man who attacked the student. He was held in county jail on a $150,000 bond.
